Acronym
Founded in 1994 as a design consultancy firm in Munich, Germany by Errolson Hugh and Michaela Sachenbacher, Acronym has become the flagship leader of technical clothing. The initial work consisted of designing for a couple of snowboard companies, one of which was Burton. With technical performance as the prime directive, Acronym was given carte blanche to make the best gear possible. Encouraged by this purity of design philosophy, they began looking for a collaborator on a clothing line. Unable to find anyone willing at that time to devote the amount of resources necessary for such an uncompromising project of pure performance, they decided to do it themselves. After years of R & D, Acronym launched their first collection “Kit-1” in 2002 - proving their results-first concept. “We’re trying to design through the product. The product is there, it’s the vehicle, but it’s not actually what we’re about.”
Since then, Acronym clothing has spread to very select online retailers while still collaborating with other brands who have similar and coherent design philosophies - from Nike and Adidas to Burton and United Arrows. The results are an uncompromising focus on function that confronts unpredictable situations - clothing as an interface with the environment. The concept of Acronym has always been about tweaking technical clothing to enhance personal abilities - realizing various sizes and shapes by combining the advantages of techwear with the elegance of pure and honest design. Each season adds to one grand collection made modular through a suite of design features that recur and interlock.
