From the carded diamond fibers of mohair wool to the single artist production of the Kapital Hand Knit Patchwork Cowichan Cardigan, this sweater is a storied tapestry made with parental devotion. Such attention was committed to very few heirloom-quality pieces, each one following the same pattern and design, but individually done. We know of only six in the United States. We bought four and there are only two left in our store.
Cowichan knitting is an acculturated art, combining European textile techniques and Salish weaving blended in the coastal pacific northwest of Canada. This sweater draws attention to a heritage art form and is loyal to the tradition, utilizing one craftsperson and First Nation motifs and vintage concho jewelry ties. This is a very special piece even by Kapital standards.
