Onitsuka Tiger is one of the oldest and most storied sneaker companies in the world and is responsible for innovating or inspiring much of the technology in today’s performance footwear.

Founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka, the brand began with just four employees, hand built, one by one in Onitsuka’s living room. From the beginning, Onitsuka Tiger was an aspirational brand that aimed to inspire youth through sport and ended up creating a dialogue about health and athletics internationally.

Onitsuka Tiger created the first breathable, blister-free running shoes, developed the Gel technology that is a requisite of all of today’s performance footwear, and was hugely influential (arguably responsible) for Nike and the first global running boom.

In 1977, Onitsuka Tiger merged with two contemporaries to become ASICS and has continued to push athletic shoe innovation and the power of sport to bring people together.

Thanks to customer demand, the most iconic models from Onitsuka Tiger have been revived. The Nippon Made shoes honor the core history of the company by handcrafting, entirely in Japan, the greatest style hits of the past. The only update is that they’re more comfortable than ever.
