Moscot
Moscot is an iconic NYC institution with world renown eyewear silhouettes. From design to optometry, Moscot is one of the oldest locally-owned stores in New York, family operated through five generations and 105 years of experience. Moscot is in the business of helping people see the world clearly while promoting the unique features of every individual and has been the source for celebrity frames from Andy Warhol to Tariq Trotter.
Founded by Hyman Moscot who arrived from Belarus via Ellis Island in 1899, he got his start selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard St. on Manhattan’s Lower East Side before opening his first storefront in 1915. Passing the baton from father to son and father to son, Moscot has created hundreds of iconic original designs while helping people see and be seen.
The Originals collection is based on the Moscot archives developed through their early decades from the 30’s - 60’s with new designs and gentle adjustments to historic favorites. Both the Sun and Spirit collections mix current trends with Moscot’s old world, vintage style and traditional hardware. All of the lenses are still made with real glass and the colored lenses precisely duplicate the ones first fabricated in-house in the 1940’s.
While Moscot now has multiple locations around the world, the brand remains a neighborhood optical shop with generations of Moscots still working the sales floor and reacting directly to customers’ needs and interests. Additionally, their charitable foundation seeks to eliminate financial and logistical barriers to quality medical eye care for the underserved of NYC via mobile optometry solutions.
*Moscot is available in-store only. We have both optical and sunglasses available. Come in and try on some pairs to find the perfect shape and style...
