Life’s Work Dance

In hard-wearing cotton pants, velvet jackets, brimmed black hats, and carrying long, sharp sticks, lean-muscled Tuscan cowboys tamed wild herds of cattle through the marshes of Maremma, Italy. These butteri, so adept with their animals that they practically danced on horseback, gathered together with communities all over northern Italy to compete in games of ability - a joyous celebration that crowned an otherwise hard life.

When Buffalo Bill took his traveling Wild West Show to Tuscany, the people, with folded arms and stoic expressions, had seen better. The butteri in the audience interrupted the show with a challenge for the troupe.

Crowds of spectators from all over northern Italy gathered to watch the contest of skills. In the ensuing days of competition, the legendary Buffalo Bill discovered that the centuries old tradition of butteri horsemasters proved far more experienced than his world renowned Congress of Rough Riders.

Mauro Sani, raised amongst the rolling hills and valleys of that Tuscan heritage, where much of the best Italian leather is still produced, founded Buttero to honor those cowboys with the mission to create the best riding boots in the world.

When Buffalo Bill took his traveling Wild West Show to Tuscany, the people, with folded arms and stoic expressions, had seen better.

Though Buttero continues to produce amazing riding boots, Mauro’s three sons have turned their generational expertise to the modern man’s wardrobe. Buttero have put that same devotion into refining sneakers into a fine Italian product - worthy of heritage, progress, and life’s work dance.

Utilizing the latest advances in Vibram rollingait technology, Buttero’s family of craftsmen and women hand sew leather uppers with daunting skill - perfectly balancing the comfort of innovation with the style of contemplative artistry.

Like the butteri, these shoes champion daily strides into a skilled dance.
